Salary: The salary currently established by the State is $86,161 to $115,750

Nature of Work:

The Maryland Commission on Civil Rights (MCCR), the agency responsible for the enforcement of anti-discrimination and civil rights laws for the State of Maryland, seeks an experienced leader with a proven record to serve as the Executive Director of this 40+ employee state agency.

MCCR is charged with investigating and administratively processing complaints that allege discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, health services and services regulated by the State Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of all administrative and programmatic activities required of this independent agency and as directed by a nine-member Board of Commissioners. The Executive Director is also responsible for fostering positive community relations throughout the State.

Candidates should be energetic, creative and have the ability to lead the Agency through new challenges in the 21st century. Candidates should be committed to communicating internally as well as externally with staff and public and government officials. The successful candidate must also have the ability to balance hands-on administration with frequent interactions with others.

Qualifications:

• A four-year Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university is required; an advanced        degree is preferred;
• A minimum of five (5) years managerial experience is required (managerial experience in civil rights and anti-discrimination work or a closely related field is preferred; prior government agency experience is a plus); and
• Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
