Mediation

The Maryland Commission on Civil Rights offers mediation services to Complainants and Respondents involved in charges of discrimination filed with any of our statewide offices.  This service is FREE for all participants.  Mediations can be scheduled during regular business hours, Monday – Friday.  MCCR does not conduct mediations during evening hours, on weekends, or on state holidays.

Mediation at MCCR is a voluntary, confidential process in which two neutral co-mediators facilitate communication between disputing parties to try to assist them in reaching a resolution.

If you are interested in participating in the Commission’s mediation services, please speak to the Civil Rights Officer assigned to your case.

The Mediation Unit of the Commission manages a roster of trained, volunteer mediators throughout the State.  To become an MCCR volunteer mediator you must be available to mediate at least once a month and fulfill all the program’s training prerequisites and continuing education requirements.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer mediator or to get more information regarding the volunteer mediator requirements, please call 410-767-8600.
